I have learnt that the Bernoulli Effect.
I have enjoyed finding out about the Bernoulli Effect.

Building a Car

Move over. Ford! Take a break, Audi! Primary 4 are in the car making business now! As part of our topic exploring transport, Primary 4 created 3D wooden cars. We started by planning our cars on paper then we worked in groups to build our cars. We painted our cars to finish them.

We needed to use a lot of different skills in order to building a model with moving parts.

The finished cars all looked great! We raced the cars too. Caity and Ruben got to the final of the P4 competition. Caity's car managed to tay in the lead and win it! Well done Caity.

P4 runner up. Well done, Ruben!

P4 race winner! Well done, Caity!

Caity and Ruben were also in the top three for the distance race, along with Emily. Emily wa in third place but the wind pushed her into first! We had decided the wind was allowed to move cars.

The wind move Emily's car into first place!

We raced again, this time for accuracy! Linking with maths, pupils tried to push their cards into shapes. They were worth 10x the number of corners they had (so triangles were worth 30, sqaures 40 and pentagons 50). Leigha managed to get lots of points here but Menna was the only one to get 50 points!

Car pile up just outside the 50 point pentagon1

Menna's car in the pentagon meant she had 50 points!

Getting into Shapes!

We have been exploring shape in Maths...

And fun exercising in P.E. called Better Movers and Thinkers

This week during maths, Primary 4 have been sorting shapes based on their properties. We started by building shapes from their 2D nets then discussing their properties. We were able to count the number and shape of faces, number of edges and number of vertices (corners on a 3D shape).

We sorted 3D shapes in Venn diagrams using given criteria before creating our own criteria for sorting shapes. We were challenged to think about the properties of shapes and how they are similar and different from one another.

To finish our shape work, we chose a 3D shape and created a poster showing everything we knew about it.

In P.E. we have implemented a practice called Better Movers and Thinkers (BMT) where physical and thinking activities are layered together. This encourages pupils to be creative and motivated during P.E., and everyone in P4 has enjoyed the challenge. This week pupils used three different jumping moves, in pairs, to create a sequence. Have a look at the creative results...

Every group had different ways of using the three jumping moves. Groups tried 1) to be mirror images 2) do different moves at the same time 3) try the jumps forwards and backwards. There was a lot of communication in groups about their choreography!

This Week (by Blogger Nell)

This week we have...been having school trips to Tesco and argos  in tesco we went in to the chiller and had lunch. and in Argos, we saw the machines that package food.

I have enjoyed...the packaging machine in Argos

I have learnt...about symmetry
