Primary four were very excited about their opportunity to develop their acting, puppetry and ventriloquism skills on Thursday.
On Thursday morning, all the classes arrived in the assembly hall. A man named told us he had about 260 puppets! So he has more puppets than pupils in SPS! He told us the story of Red Riding Hood with the help of some pupils.
Later, in primary 4 and 5's puppet workshop, we are given hints on making puppets look like they are talking: give them a funny voice, keep your mouth open and don't use the letters m, p or b... easy enough!
We told the story of The Piper of Hamlet and we used lots of different puppets to tell the story. We are looking forward to when he comes back!

Term 4 in Primary 4!
This is pupils' last term in primary four! We have still got a lot of exciting things to learn about before the summer holidays.
Easter
To celebrate Easter, primary 4 painted boiled eggs. Part of the design had to be related to the Easter story. We rolled our eggs down a hill. It was a lot of fun. Aiden, Menna and Emily's eggs won prizes. We also made little cakes to share with others.
Maths
In maths our focus is on measure, shape, position and movement. We will be trying to make use of spring and summer weather by learning outdoors when we can. Pupils have explored estimating, measuring and comparing lengths. Soon we will also estimate and measure weights, areas and volumes.
In shape, position and movement we will develop our knowledge about symmetry, 2D and 3D shapes, grids and coordinates.
We are continuing to improve our mental maths and number/ multiplication bonds.
Reading and writing
In reading and writing we will continue to explore fiction and non-fiction texts, including poems and play-scripts. We have discussed the different types of questions we can ask. These types of questions are: remembering, understanding, applying, analysing, evaluating and creating.
In grammar and spelling, we are practising singular and plural words before moving onto tenses (past, present and future).
Health and Well-being
For HWB, we have been discussing the healthy mind. Using the book, Ish (By Peter Reynolds), we explroed what it means to be successful. Our conclusions were being successful meant: doing your best, being your best, setting high expectations, learning from mistakes, being happy with with your best effort, learning we don't need to get things perfect.
Topic: Transport
Our topic for the first part of term 4 is transport. We have discussed transport and technology, seeing how we use technology in our daily lives. We are going to create wooden cars that move so we have started developing our ideas by crating paper and cardboard designs:
We are arranging a visit to LoganAir hanger in Kirkwall to investigate planes and the hard work that goes into maintaining them.
