Junior headteacher for a day

                     Head teacher for a day

As you all will probably know earlier on last year at school the primary six class got the opportunity to run for head teacher. Today the winner of the majority of the votes got to be junior head teacher for the day. Here he is with his campaign team.

The junior head teacher experienced some of the daily life of the ahead teacher, visiting classes and introducing the assembly. At break time, pupils could play on the X-Box in the P7 classroom or watch a film in the hall. Chicken burgers were served for lunch.

p7 museum

In p7 we made a museum with artifacts that some people brought in, most of us also did interviews with friends of family or family about what they did or what it was like in the war. The museum brought a lot of attention from parents and other classes we did posters about the artifacts we brought in.

National Theatre "Shopping For Shoes"

National Theatre Of Scotland "Shopping For Shoes"

On Wednesday the 14th of September the National Theatre Of Scotland came to the school and did a performance for the senior end classes 5 to 7 called Shopping For Shoes.
In the afternoon Glaitness primary school came to watch it as well.

The play was amazing because there was just one woman acting but everyone was absolutely spellbound by the performance. There were lots of shoe boxes that the woman kept arranging into different positions and in every box there were props like shoes and things which she used to create the play. It was amazing that she remembered what was in all the boxes but she never forgot what was in every box.

After the play Mrs.Linklater did a survey thing with the classes i was not present during this but I do have the results from P7.

These results are out of 12 people

Question: Did the performance meet your expectations?

Answer: 11 people went for it was better than expected and 1 person went for I didn't have any expectations.

Question: What did you think was the most effective part of the production?

Answer: 1 person went for sound and music, 6 people went for performance and 5 people went for props.

Question: What did you think was the least effective part of the production?

Answer: 7 people went for costume,3 people went for lighting and 1 person went for props.

Question: Would you recommend the performance to other people?

Answer: Everyone chose yes.

Question:What would you give the performance out of 5?

Answer: Everyone chose 5 stars.

                     Ceilidh on The Brain

Two people came to the school to show us about music and the brain but first they gave us a song. Here are some pics:

Here are some facts: (1)The right side of your brain controls the left side of your body

(2) The back of the brain controls your eyes

(3) Your brain is grey and squishy

In groups, we made up dances to show what happens when light enters your eye and what happens when sound enters your ear.

House Challenge 2016

                                                House Challenge 2016

On the 9th of September 2016 the first house assembly was held. The challenge was to create a poster for each of the houses.

The house captains were revealed at the beginning part of the assembly. Everyone was surprised because usually there is a vote and 2 members from each house are chosen to lead that house but this year the P7 class was smaller with only 13 pupils so everyone was a house captain!

For each house there was a mascot: for Cava there is Carlos the crocodile and Cava koala; for Fara there is Fara Phoenix; for Rysa there is Rysa Duck and for Switha there is Bob (the minion).

There was much suspense on Friday the day of the challenge because on that day the posters were judged and the winner was picked BUT the winner was only revealed during assembly on Monday afternoon.
The winners are as follows.

Top Left Rysa 4th place 50 points
Top Right Switha 2nd place 70 points

Bottom right Fara 3rd place 60 points
Bottom Left Cava 1st place 100 points

There were 2 different categories, one was for poster design and the other was for teamwork and leadership.
For the poster design
Cava was first with 50 points
                                 Fara second with 40 points
                                 Switha third with 30 points
and Rysa last with 20 points

For teamwork and leadership
Cava was first again with 50 points
Switha was second with 40 points
Rysa was third with 30 points
and Fara was last with 20 points

The house challenge was really fun overall and all of the posters looked amazing.

We all enjoyed it though some of us don't usually play football.

GORGE WALKING!

    Gorge walking is so FUN!

We started by getting our kit     ready then getting on the mini-   bus and driving to a burn that     led into a gorge.

Then we got to crawl through a     tunnel that went under a road     and came out onto the gorge.

We climbed down the gorge and on some high bits, we got to abseil a down  with a rope.
When we got down a bit the view   was like a scene from the jungle   book. Then we got to a hill above   a rocky beach.

We got hot chocolate and played   a game called 'Meerkat Manner.'

Then we started the climb back up and when we reached the top we got to crawl under the road     again.

Hoy 2016 Coasteering by Zoe and Lucy

On June the 16th P6 went Coasteering courtesy of the Hoy outdoor education centre. The instructors were called Kate E , Kate R and Chris.

The groups were:

Chris                                  Kate R                        Kate E

 Owen                                  Nell                                Lucy
Ruben                                 Caity                              Abi
Aiden                                  Eileen                           Menna
Dylan                                  Leigha                          Emily
                                            Martha                          Zoe

These were going to be our tent rooms but we didn't go camping because of bad weather.

There was 2 jumps 1 for shallow water and 1 for deep water.
The one for shallow water was technically a belly flop and the one for deep water was a jump when you cross your arms like an Egyptian mummy and jumped in like a pencil.

Kate E's group got a test swim in the water to get used to it.
They swam to a rock to get ready for their first jump. The people in Kate E's group shouted thing as the jumped in such as   "Tire marks tire marks!", "Lets go bowling!", "21!" "Watermelon!"

They went in a cave a explored for a few minutes. Zoe didn't enjoy this because she needed the toilet! This is a quote from Lucy who was in Kate E's group, "I liked it because we got to do a belly flop and just swim in the sea I would love to do again!"

We got to learn about different sea creatures. For example, we learnt that the teeth on the limpet is called the rasping radula. We got to squeeze limpets and  water  came out a hole in the top of the limpet.

Then we walked up the hills to the buses. We were soaking wet. The boys got changed it the blue bus and the girls got changed in the trailer. Overall, it was so fun and we would all do it again in a heartbeat. "Hoy was one of the best things I have done in my life!" said Zoe

Canoeing in Hoy by Leigha and Eileen

                                     canoeing

When we were in Hoy we split up into two groups one group went to do a gorge walk which will be talked about in a different post.

This post is made by two different individuals who were in different groups and so had different  fun experiences.

Hi I'm Eileen and I was in the first group to do canoeing. We had to take a bunch of stuff in our kit bags which included: a spare change of clothes, a towel, a jumper and our water bottles. We had to wear a buoyancy aid and water proof trousers and top .
We had to go in partners or a three. I was partnered with my best friend Nell and we NEARLY fell out 5 times. It was kind of scary when we nearly fell out but it was also fun because each time it happened we got a rush of Adrenalin which made it even more fun. One of those times A CERTAIN SOMEBODY  pushed our canoe and we nearly fell out. We learnt to steer and go backwards and turn around. We had a mini race spinning around. We went up river and at the end we got hot chocolate outside. It was fabulous and I would absolutely totally do it again.

Hi I'm Leigha and I was in the 2nd group that did canoeing . we didn't bring that much important stuff apart from a buoyancy aid and oars.Once we got the equipment together we made rafts with canoes, straps and wood  to put the two canoes together  and the piece of wood went in the middle between the canoes then the straps went round the middle seat and the piece of wood to keep them together. When we set off it was really windy but when we finished we had a rock tower building competition on the beach,as I was dismantling mine to restart, my finger got caught under a rock and got cut badly but Caity gave me stuff to put on my finger so it wouldn't get infected and when we got back to the center I put Savlon and a plaster on it. Even though i got a peedie bit hurt I had lots of fun canoeing and would definitely want to do it again.

P6 Hoy Trip 2016 Canoeing

              Canoeing
Whilst in Hoy, p6 have done a variety of activities. One of those activities was canoeing.
So we split off into two groups, one went gorge walking and the other went canoeing. I was in the canoeing team .The instructor Kate R showed us what to do and once we were confident enough, we got in our canoe . The boys [Dylan, Owen, Mr Cowan] sped off super quickly. They were pro and the girls [Zoe, Abi and Lucy] were pretty good too. But then there were me[Nell] and Eileen and we nearly fell in about five times. It was great fun.

Coasteering

When we got from the hostel to long hope we got given a wet suit, wet socks, wet gloves and a helmet. We got changed and started to walk to the beach. When we got to the beach, Chris went through some of the safe jumps to get into the water. Chris jumped in first then Ruben,  Aiden,  Dylan & then Owen. Then we had to swim through lots of seaweed to get to a rock so we could climb up it. Chris climbed the rock first then Ruben zoomed up it so quick he was up there in seconds then Owen found a different way up then Aiden just went up the same way as Owen went.  Dylan tried and tried but he could not get up it, so he had to swim around the rock where we were. Next we swam round to a big rock that you can jump off, it was really fun. Then we went in a cave that Chris didn't even know about so Chris said go in. We had to swim in it at the start of the cave but after a while we had to walk in the pitch black to find the end of the cave. Eventually, Chris found the end of the cave and said for us to walk back out.

BUSHCRAFT IN HOY

In Hoy, p6 did bush-craft. Group 1 did shelter building while group 2 learnt how to make a camp fire.

P6 have learnt that it is quite tricky and dangerous to make a camp fire because you have to gather lots of dry sticks. When we got the fire going we took out marshmallows and toasted them over the fire.

When we were making shelters, it was hard and we had to work as a team to get huge, heavy logs to were we were building our shelter. We used leafs, logs and trees.
