Hockey with P6
Over the
last few weeks we have been developing our hockey skills. We have worked on dribbling, controlling the
ball, passing and shooting. We put our
skills to the test with some games against P6 who have also been working on their
Hockey skills. We started off outside
but the rain drove us in! We played some
good games but P6 showed how well developed their skills are, they played
excellently. We are going to continue to
work on ours again in Term 4 – particularly passing to each other and finding
spaces on the court and we will have a rematch!
P5 Archaeologists
We were
very lucky this week to have a visit from Sandra, a Historic Scotland
Ranger. She came in with a big box of
replica Viking artefacts. They were very
interesting. She asked us to be Archaeologists and try and work out what each
artefact was, who would have used and what it was used for. She told us there was one very tricky
challenge and she didn’t think we would get it but we worked together as a team
and discovered that it was used as a ‘strike a light’ to light fires
quickly! Sandra was really impressed at
our team work and knowledge of the Vikings!
It was a great visit and we learned some new facts about Vikings and
enjoyed seeing and handling the artefacts.

Lovely Longships
As part of
our homework challenge we had to create Viking Longships from recycled material! It was a tricky challenge but our creations
are amazing! We met our design brief and
have created some excellent models which have been much admired. The materials used range from bottle tops,
lolly sticks, cardboard, cloth and metal.
We even had some recycled cake!!
Well done
P5 a fantastic effort from you all and a big thanks to everyone who helped to
create them too!

Vicious Vikings at SPS
Today was our ‘Vicious Vikings’
Assembly! We entertained the whole
school plus lots of our family and gave them some information about
Vikings! We gave interesting facts,
acted out dramas and even sang our very own version of Let It Go! It was a great way to bring all our learning
together and we enjoyed sharing it with you all. We enjoyed dressing up as Vikings too!
A scary bunch of Vikings!

Big Huge Update!!
Our blog has been rather quiet lately! Our class camera broke and there have been no
photos but now it is fixed so we can get back blogging again!
Here is a whistlestop catch up of the things we have been up to the last few weeks – unfortunately there are not many pictures!
Vikings
We have continued our learning about Vikings. We have been learning more about their everyday lives – what they ate and what they wore. We were surprised that some things they ate are similar to what we have today but we all agreed that we preferred our food now!
We also had a great visit from Janette Park who came to talk to us about Vikings in Orkney. She dressed Joe from Primary 1 in an Up Helly Aa Outfit and he did a fashion show for us! P5 were impressed and were particularly keen to have a go of his axe!
Miss Shearer has been very impressed with the Viking Longships that were made for homework! What a fantastic effort from everyone! Photos will follow!!
Strictly
Come Dancing
We have been very proud of our Head Teacher Mr McIntosh and his dance partner Mrs Aberdein. Not only did they impress us with their fantastic dancing skills they also WON Strictly Come Dancing! Well done! We think it was our great banner that did it!
Hockey Skills
It was great to see a big effort from most of P5 on World Book Day – we had some great dressing up costumes! We had a fun quiz on world book day and our literature knowledge is pretty good! There was also lots of money raised which the school can spend on new literacy resources!
In the afternoon we had a talent show – what a
lot of talented people there are at SPS!
Rachel from P2 took the final honour in first place but everyone was
really a winner! Eileen and Emily
represented P5 and did a fantastic job!
We had a first round in the classroom and Miss Shearer was very
impressed with the talent in P5 alone!

Hockey Skills
We have been developing our hockey skills in
class PE this term and we are really enjoying it.
We have been working on our ball control
skills and are now developing our team work and passing the ball to other people. We are hoping to have a game against P6
sometime soon who are also developing their hockey skills.
World
Book Day

Red
Nose Day
We certainly didn’t have an unlucky day on
Friday 13th! The whole school
got right behind raising money for Comic Relief and we had a great day of fun
and fundraising! In the morning we heard
about where our money will go to and how it will help people in Africa have
better lives. Then we were able to go
round P7’s ‘stalls’. There was baking,
bric-a-brac, face paints, nail painting, Fifa Football, Soak the Teacher,
Bottle Stall , Nail in the Bale and a Raffle!
Phew!
The whole school raised over £1000 for Comic Relief - WELL DONE SPS!
Phew!
Now our camera is fixed and the blog will be up to date again! Check back soon!
